NYC Oyster swim

MAKING WAVES FOR CLEAN WATER.

Highlighting water Quality and efforts to make a difference

Join us on for the NYC Oyster Swim as we take on the waters surrounding Governors Island, NYC to raise awareness of local water quality and the work being done to address it.

The swim will start from the water, with an epic view of lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Swimmers will proceed along the shoreline, ending near the Pier 101 home of Billion Oyster Project – an organization dedicated to improving NYC’s waterways through oyster seeding and stewardship of the Community Water Quality Testing Program.

NOTE: This is an advanced open water swim, for experienced open water swimmers only.

Fundraising Focus

BILLION OYSTER PROJECT

Billion Oyster Project is a New York City-based nonprofit organization with the goal of engaging one million people in the effort to restore one billion oysters to New York Harbor by 2035.

The Community Water Quality Testing (CWQT) program, managed by Billion Oyster Project, engages community scientists in weekly testing of New York Harbor water. This program – initially organized by Nancy Brous and Rob Buchanan via the New York City Water Trail Association – is the focus of our awareness building and fundraising efforts.
